A pair of longtime leaders in the Iowa horse racing industry, Tom Lepic and Deb Leech, and the accomplished Iowa-bred stakes champion Mywomanfromtokyo, will be inducted into the Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame in a ceremony here on Friday July 2, 2021.

Lepic and Leech will be recognized for their many years of lasting contributions to the growth of horse racing in Iowa and at Prairie Meadows. Lepic, who has been involved in the racing industry for almost 50 years, serves as the President of the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association, a position he has held since 2011. Leech, after her retirement from the business world, served as a board member of the Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association from 2009 through 2016 and as President of the ITBOA from 2011 through 2016.

Mywomanfromtokyo, trained by Prairie Meadows Hall of Famer Kelly Von Hemel and owned by the Crimson King Farm of Scott Pope and Christine Rhiner, became the all-time leading money earner among Iowa-bred distaffers at $595,276 with her 12th lifetime victory in the final start of her career in the $85,000 Donna Reed Stakes on September 26, 2020.

“It’s a very big honor for me,” said Lepic, but I have to give credit to all those who have been with me over the years I’ve been involved in the racing industry of Iowa. The trainers, jockeys, officials, the staff and board of the IQHRA past and present, and the executives at Prairie Meadows. Without their support, this honor would not have been possible.”

Lepic noted that, during his tenure as President of the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association, Prairie Meadows has hosted the season-ending AQHA Bank of America Challenge Championships for the top Quarter Horses in the country three times beginning in 2012.

“I believe the lasting legacy of my time as President of the IQHRA is the fact we have put Prairie Meadows on the national map for the leading breeders, owners, and trainers in the Quarter Horse industry,” Lepic added. “What’s different, too, is that all of the horsemen’s groups and Prairie Meadows understand that it is a cooperative venture and that we need to work together for the common good of the industry.”

The Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame “Class of 2021” will be inducted in ceremonies at the track on Friday July 2, which is the first day of the 2021 Iowa Festival of Racing.
