Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission database
compromised
DES MOINES, IOWA (January 29,2010) - The Iowa Racing and
Gaming Commission is investigating an unauthorized compromise of a server hosting a database containing occupational
licensing records. The compromise took place January 26, 2010, when one of the State's firewall's functionality
was circumvented due to network routing changes.
The Department of Administrative Services' Information Security Office (ISO) notified the Commission January 27
that the Racing and Gaming server was compromised by an external I.P.address. The server contains more than 80,000
records containing casino employee employment information including names, birth dates, and social security numbers.
Commission staff is currently analyzing the server to determine the extent of the intrusion and the number of individuals
potentially impacted by the compromise.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is advising individuals who have obtained occupational licenses to work at
Iowa racing and gaming venues to closely watch their credit report and to inform their local law enforcement agency
of any unusual credit activity. To assist individuals, the Commission has posted information on its website about
credit protection. This information is available at http://www.state.ia.us/irgc/
Assisting the Racing and Gaming Commission with the investigation and notification of individuals are the State's
Information Security Office and the Iowa Attorney General's Office
